New 20 miles of CV Link throughout the Coachella Valley!

Following the successful installation of the first segment of CV Link in 2018, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) has begun building the next phase which will add nearly 20 miles to CV Link throughout the Coachella Valley. CV Link provides access for pedestrians, bicyclists, and low-speed neighborhood electric vehicles (like golf carts) on a paved pathway throughout the valley. Bicycling and walking are popular in the valley, this project will provide more opportunities for enjoyment of these healthy lifestyle activities. It will also connects many of the valley’s parks, public spaces, and attractions, without having to use a car.

CVAG’s contractor, Ames Construction, has already started construction in other parts of the valley and anticipates building new segments in Palm Springs starting in February. The next segment in Palm Springs will be Mesquite Ave between Sunrise Way and Compadre Rd. The most notable change will be in the installation of a Class IV bikeway, which separates bicyclist from vehicular traffic in a dedicated bike path, separated barriers on the roadway. This will be installed along the northside of this section of Mesquite Ave, and means all the vehicle lanes will be shifted south a bit, while keeping one lane in each direction, with a center lane for left turns. Modifications to the traffic signals and crosswalks at Sunrise/Mesquite and Farrell/Mesquite will also be done to accommodate the new lane configuration. The project also includes a complete slurry seal of the roadway and CV Link’s signature blue and orange crossings at the intersections.
