New Year Letter from the TRENO Chair

New Year Letter from the TRENO Chair

TRENO Chair - Catherine Salazar

Welcome to 2022!  It is my pleasure to be writing to you at the beginning of what we hope will be a year full of different and new life stories.  My name is Catherine Salazar-Wilson, but my friends simply call me Cat.  I hope you will do the same when I bump into you on the street while walking my dog Budgett or seeing you at places we frequent in our neighborhood, Tahquitz River Estates.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, your neighborhood organization has struggled to find ways to keep our community close.  Not being able to meet in a large group has been a challenge for many of the neighborhoods in our city.  During this time of “together apart” we have all experienced life differently.  It is my sincere hope that soon enough we will be able to see each other in person and although things may not be exactly the same as before, they may be different, in a better way.

Safety, health, and welfare continue to be an important focus for all of the neighborhoods in Palm Springs.  Part of our role as a community is to be cognizant of our surrounds.  We need to know our neighbors.  Exchange phone numbers.  Let your neighbors know when you will be away.  Be familiar with who you should see on a day to day basis, so you know when something is not quite right.  Taking care of each other is by far our greatest strength.  Palm Springs Police Department has many ways of assisting us in this endeavor including an assigned Police Officer and Code Enforcement Officer specifically for our neighborhood.  Recently PSPD rolled out an upgrade to their app which can be downloaded onto your phone or other devices. The link to the PSDP app is listed below.     https://www.palmspringsca.gov/government/departments/police/pspd-app

Beginning in December 2021 TRENO introduced its Clean Streets quarterly event.  CLEAN STREETS happens between 9 AM & 11 AM on Saturday.  This is a new program revolving around cleaning up within a few blocks of your home.  We will have trash bags, loaner pickers, you get the idea. Cleaning up around your front yard.  This could be another great way to meet your neighbors while being out in an open air setting.  Still focusing on maintaining distance and masking.  Our next quarterly Clean Streets event will be in March.  Please follow the website for updates on the date for this event.

Treasure or Trash?  Who does not like to clean out their closets or garages every few years?  TRENO is giving you the opportunity by hosting a neighborhood GARAGE SALE set for Saturday February 26, 2022, from 8 AM to 1 PM.  Please go to the website for more information.  Get your address listed on our map for this one of a kind event.

Over the past few years, we have had to hold our annual Spring Fling via Zoom or not at all.  We are hoping to be able to have this year’s annual get together in person.  This event is scheduled in April and is a no business event.  A social gathering for TRENO Board members to meet neighbors, and neighbors to visit neighbors.  Watch out for more information about our Spring Fling on our website.

Finally, we are once again planning to be a part of MODERNISM WEEK in 2023.  In past years, TRENO has been a proud celebrant of the House Tours.  In 2019, the Architecture of Tahquitz River Estates was celebrated by hosting 7 homes and the Church of Christ, Scientist.  This tour marked 70 years of modern living and was a huge success!  Please consider volunteering your home for our 2023 tour.  I or any of your TRENO Board members can be reached by contacting us via your Tahquitz River Estates website at TRENOps.com.

See you around the hood,

Cat
