Voted for and approved at various TRENO meetings, it was time to pull down the previous older signs with the previous name and give Tahquitz River Estates the attention it deserves as one of Palm Springs best neighborhoods!

So we are stuck in COVID for now. What to do? I treated myself to a new bike—my first new one since 1985—and I take to our streets. I have renewed my love affair with bike riding and my neighborhood

Watch-Out! The Coachella Valley is currently under major infestation of the Agave Snout Nosed Beetlet! Primarily praying on Agave and Yucca plants, this terrible beetle can infest an otherwise healthy large yucca and turn into a pile of mush in a matter weeks. Believe me, I know as I had to learn the hard way and get an advanced education in desert pests in a matter of days, while our beautiful front yard was decimated (as well as several of our neighbor’s yards).

Although it may not be readily apparent, things have been happening at Cody Place and much more will be seen soon. Other than the exterior stucco finish being applied to the clubhouse, all other progress has been below ground level. Utility trenching for the first models (Building 21) has been completed, and the two swimming pools and spa have also been gunited.

While the rest of the country deals with tornadoes (please send good thoughts to Tennessee), an "atmospheric river" bringing torrential rains and flooding to already saturated areas, we are bracing for 1" of rain in the next couple days. Said another way, the weather Palm Springs is famous for and that TRENO folks--both full- and part-time--so enjoy has returned. Welcome back!

On July 18 an inspirational woman and former TRENO resident (and co-founding member) left us at the amazing age of 98. Florence Ambler Klaasen (Flo) was a Palm Springs treasure who was a fount of local history as she moved here in the mid 40's as a remedy for her oldest son's severe asthma. Her initial reaction to the doctor's recommendation was "Palm Springs? That's only for movie stars. We're regular people."

Valley residents should protect themselves against mosquito bites to prevent falling sick.

INDIO, CA: Mosquitoes collected from traps in Palm Desert tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) and St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV). These are the first mosquito samples to test positive for either virus in Palm Desert this year. Mosquitoes in La Quinta and Thermal have also tested positive for SLEV as previously reported.

As one of the Board Members of the Tahquitz River Estates Neighborhood Organization (TRENO), I am proud to announce that at the Board Meeting this evening, it was approved to award $500 to local organizations that help to serve our neighbors.

TRENO has a small number (15) of emergency bags we purchased as door prizes for our Spring Social. Since that has been cancelled, we will offer these as a bonus gift, to either new members or existing members that renew, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Membership donation is $25.

Attention Tahquitz River Estates residents, due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, your Neighborhood Council Board has set up an Outreach Program to try to meet some of the urgent needs of our residents.
