Kids of All Ages Enjoy TRENO Giant Christmas Parade Balloons!

Our neighborhood continued our commitment and dedication to one of our City's premier events, The Parade of Lights. This year, we were assigned the Tuxedo Penguin balloon to wrangle down the parade route. Our neighborhood was the first balloon in the parade as well as the 5th in the line up of floats, bands and other balloons. It was a great honor to be behind the national and regional recognized Palm Springs Band who were decked out in lights and played their hearts out.

Watch-Out! The Coachella Valley is currently under major infestation of the Agave Snout Nosed Beetlet! Primarily praying on Agave and Yucca plants, this terrible beetle can infest an otherwise healthy large yucca and turn into a pile of mush in a matter weeks. Believe me, I know as I had to learn the hard way and get an advanced education in desert pests in a matter of days, while our beautiful front yard was decimated (as well as several of our neighbor’s yards).

On July 18 an inspirational woman and former TRENO resident (and co-founding member) left us at the amazing age of 98. Florence Ambler Klaasen (Flo) was a Palm Springs treasure who was a fount of local history as she moved here in the mid 40's as a remedy for her oldest son's severe asthma. Her initial reaction to the doctor's recommendation was "Palm Springs? That's only for movie stars. We're regular people."

Mosquitoes in Palm Desert test positive for two mosquito-borne diseases

Valley residents should protect themselves against mosquito bites to prevent falling sick.

INDIO, CA: Mosquitoes collected from traps in Palm Desert tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) and St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV). These are the first mosquito samples to test positive for either virus in Palm Desert this year. Mosquitoes in La Quinta and Thermal have also tested positive for SLEV as previously reported.
